Donkin Downhill Dash Event Details

When last did you hear of a skateboarding event held on piece of artwork? Well here’s one. The winding path at the Donkin Reserve was built to commemorate the long queues of voters at the 1994 national ellections. But it just so happens that the path is perfect for a bit of downhill skateboarding fun. With immaculate tar, a gentle gradient and plenty of curvy hairpin corners it’s hard to think how the path could be put to better use than to be the venue for a longboarding competition!

This year there are 3 catergories for skaters: Open, Ladies and Groms. Aside from skateboarding they have also included a “Anything on Wheels” category and a bike category. The Anything With Wheels category is just for a bit of fun and winners will be chosen based on speed, most original craft, best dressed and most elaborate crash. For the cyclists there are two events: the “Ally Cat Race” is a dash through the inner city taking a route of your choice and the “King of the Hill” is a time trial race up the Donkin path.

For the skaters, the racing is done in single person timed runs where the fastest time wins. Each skater will get 3 runs and the best of those three will be used to place them.

If you can get there, you really don’t want to miss this event. That hill is a lot of fun and the organisers really know what they are doing. Even if you’re not competing, there will be a lot to keep you entertained.
