Volante Checkers come with a non-broken in contact patch but slide as smooth on the first slide as they do once broken in. Conveying the views of Comet, they are skate anything wheels which allows you to slide them on any surface with a consistent feeling. Concrete, bricks, patchy tar, rough tar and anything that you can think of.
These wheels are very slidey on the kick-out requiring minimal force to get sideways. They do kill enough speed to make you feel comfortable going fast yet they’re also good for technical stuff at lower speeds. I was amazed at the high roll speed of the relatively smaller wheel.
Checkers do not hold lines very well but that can’t be very much of a con for a freeride wheel with such a small contact patch.
Conclusively, Checkers are amazing wheels with a good life, nice thane lines, fast roll speed, versatile and a value-for-money wheel with a beautiful core and very cool “comet” embossed near the bearing seat.
